What is my ideal job in public relations? Well to be honest, I am really not sure. My ideas have jumped all over the place. First, I dreamed of being a fashion publicist. I mean come on - I was young and had a passion for fashion. It seemed like it would be exciting and a lot of fun. I would work with famous fashion designers and I would coordinate fashion shows. I would work with fashion magazines and plan fashion shoots. What teenage girl would not want a glamorous job like that?

Well over the past few months I have been interning with The Wakeman Agency, a public relations and event planning agency that works mainly with nonprofit organizations. After researching and really understanding what these organizations work for, I am fascinated. I enjoy working with these clients because their work is meaningful and about helping others.

Public relations can take you in any direction. Lately I love the idea of practicing public relations for companies or organizations that matter. I think I would enjoy the satisfaction of helping businesses that I believe in to grow. I would happily publicize their goals and visions. I want to help change attitudes and behaviors toward some of the world’s most pressing social and environmental issues. I want to raise awareness for products and services that improve our quality of life. I want to craft creative campaigns that capture attention and make a real difference in sparking positive behavior change. I want to publicize companies and organizations that are actually newsworthy.

I would love nothing more than to make a name for myself representing clients that make our world a better place. An ideal job in public relations to me now is to own my own agency, an agency that works with clients who drive for social change. I want to generate and implement solutions that protect and improve lives. I want to advance worthwhile causes.
