The Wakeman Agency – Joy Exhibit

The Wakeman Agency team was recently invited to participate in an art exhibit curated by Grace Institute, a New York City based nonprofit that provides a free job training program for women. The exhibit, Joy brings together over 60 original works from Grace Institute students and staff along with local artists and supporters. The exhibit will be on display from December 1, 2011 through January 13, 2012 at Grace Institute’s New York City headquarters. The mixed medium art show poses the question to artists and observers alike: what brings you joy?

I’ve nicknamed my daughter “C,” “Cen-Cen,” “little booger,” “baby birdie (for when she’s looking sick & helpless), and a slew of other names that only a mom can call a kiddo and get away with. We have daily joy because she is absolutely hilarious, loving, kind, and a happy kid.

Seeing the moment on a dogs face when they realize that someone finally loves them back is one of the best moments in animal rescue.

My dog hasn’t always had the best life, so seeing him so happy now brings me infinite joy. He brings joy to everyone he meets because he’s so full of love. He’s helping to change people’s perception of Pit Bulls one sloppy kiss at a time.

My Weimaraner Pancho brings me joy every day. His love is unconditional. He knows when I’m feeling happy or sad and his eyes always send the right gesture for the occasion. He’s content to take walks and play ball when it conveniences me, even though he would prefer to make play time all the time! Although we never exchange words our conversations run deep. I know him and he knows me. A perfect relationship that requires no explanation or examination. He shows me that I too can achieve perfection in accepting if I am only willing to try.

Sailors used to call a cove where the water reflected the sky ‘ciel trap’, which means trap of the sky. When we moved to our house I ran past it out onto the dock to look out at the water before I ever opened the door. I like to swim in the summer morning sky off the dock before anyone else is awake and close to every morning there is a kayaker who slipped into the water thinking no one else would be up or a sky gazer out in their yard on the shore, we quietly acknowledge that we all came here for quiet and greet a joyful morning.

These are the two “people” that make me smile on a daily basis – and they remind me that silliness will never be lost from our joy!
