I recently had the pleasure of escaping our cold season to spend a few days in beautiful Costa Rica. I had a ball zip-lining through the forest, making several attempts at surfing and enjoying the Costa Rican culture.
One of the things I learned while away is that CSR is alive and well in other parts of the world. Many of the boutique properties in Costa Rica have committed to sustainability practices to ensure the preservation of this beautiful country. From my brief observation, this was more than lip service – it was a commitment that everyone, from bellhop to owner, was proud to uphold.
I also stumbled upon a very cool nonprofit, Pack for a Purpose, that helps travelers who want to give back by offering supply lists for local community-based projects near their destinations. One of the beneficiaries for Pack for a Purpose in Costa Rica is The CEIPIA Community Center in Guancaste, the Northwest part of the country.
The Center provides and afterschool program with communication training and educational classes for 300 children and teenagers between the ages of 2 and 20 years old. Luna Boutique Hotel, as part of their partnership, also asks guests during check-out if they would be willing to donate $1 to the Center.
Pack for a Purpose is just one example of the desire of mankind to help one another. The next time you take a trip, check out the Pack for a Purpose website to see what is available.
