Job Summary
The Wakeman Agency is seeking a Senior Public Relations Director. We seek an individual with 7+ years of communications experience directing the overall positioning strategy of strategic communications plans for clients, growing and managing teams, creating budgets for PR accounts, and overseeing the administration of PR campaigns. The Senior Director will also be involved in business development, operational leadership and leadership team decisions.
Responsibilities
- Develop and support the execution of strategic communications plans
- Oversee the planning, development, and implementation of PR campaigns and initiatives
- Work with the internal team to recognize communication opportunities and solutions, and define and execute appropriate strategies to support them for clients
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, providing counsel and addressing and anticipating their communication needs
- Oversee the day-to-day activities of the communications function including strategic advisory, budgeting, planning and staff development
- Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that prioritizes innovation, learning and a commitment to quality
- Contribute to internal initiatives and workstreams including thought leadership, marketing and branding efforts, as requested
- Attend networking events, seminars and conferences, including out-of-hours, as required
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of policy issues as they relate to urgent and emerging social issues
Requirements
- 7+ years experience in a management role preferably within an agency
- Strong strategic thinking and visionary leadership skills
- Demonstrated success in business development and revenue generation
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Deep commitment to social justice and equity
- Extensive successful writing and editing experience to support the development of bylined articles, op-eds and other content
- Demonstrated experience and leadership in developing and managing comprehensive strategic communications plans to advance an organization’s goals
- Innovative thinker, with a track record for translating strategic thinking into action plans and output
- Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills
- Superior management skills; ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers
- Results-oriented and self-reliant
- Ability to make decisions in a changing environment and anticipate future needs
- Excellent and persuasive communicator
- Experience measuring the ROI of communications activities
- Understanding of the nonprofit landscape and current social issues

Compensation
Qualified candidates expressing interest in this position in a full-time, part-time or consulting capacity will be considered. The full-time salary for this role is within the range of $130,000-$150,000, with benefits.
