This month marks the Agency’s 16th birthday. I can’t help but reflect on how it all began and all that we have accomplished since 2003. When I share the story of how The Wakeman Agency was born, people are often surprised to learn that we started as an events firm, planning social and corporate events. Just six months into our existence, at the request of a nonprofit client, we worked on our first PR related project. Today, we have evolved into a full fledged social change agency, collaborating with nonprofits, foundations, and socially responsible companies, to accelerate progress on important social issues.
As we seek to stay two steps ahead of our clients in anticipation of their needs, we’ve given a lot of thought to the resources and information that helps amplify the voices of mission-driven organizations and the people who lead them. We have been thinking a lot about some of the challenges that organizations face: supporting women and people of color in the workplace, working with challenging board members, creating and sustaining interest in organizations’ missions to drive financial support, and so much more. We are actively working to offer support in each of these areas.
In a couple of weeks, we will be distributing a survey focused on the relationship of board member contributions to the success of nonprofits. The findings will be used as part of a publication that will be a resource for board member onboarding, to guide individuals in their interactions and how they can successfully support organizations.
We also have some exciting announcements we will be making this fall. In the interim, please read to see who is new to our client roster, the latest guest on The Social Change Diaries podcast and upcoming classes for our thought leadership program, She Roars.
Have a great summer!
