Agency and organization rejoin forces in awareness-raising efforts for misophonia and selective sound sensitivity syndrome
NEW YORK CITY, NY – The Wakeman Agency today announced that it has signed an agreement to become the public relations agency of record for SENetwork (Sensation and Emotion Network), a national alliance of individual clinicians, academic researchers and families advocating research, education and support regarding misophonia.
The Wakeman Agency will execute a public relations campaign to help build awareness of SENetwork and its advocacy efforts to create a broader understanding of misophonia.
Misophonia, also known as selective sound sensitivity syndrome, is a disorder estimated to affect up to 5-12 percent of Americans and is characterized by a constellation of negative emotions and reactions to specific sounds, or triggers. The SENetwork is led by Dr. Jennifer Brout, a clinical psychologist, misophonia sufferer, and mother of a child who, too, suffers from the disorder. The organization seeks to advance inquiry, investigation and research that will increase understanding, develop evidence-based treatments and strengthen multi-disciplinary collaboration within the field among psychologists, psychiatrists, audiologists, and other allied health, mental health and medical professionals.
